General information

We are a Family Owned and Operated Establishment since the 1950's conveniently located in the heart of Hamilton, Ontario.

Starting back in the Early 1950's Louis Howarth started selling at his booth at the famous Portobello Road Market In West London UK. During the 1960's He opened the first "Down The Lane" shop in Rochdale UK. He used that name referring to the Portobello Road Market in UK where it all started. Young Denis Howarth was so fascinated about his father's shop with all the antiques and collectibles, he soon found a niche for it. He studied, and learned a lot during his young years. In early 1981 Denis "Antique" Howarth opened a shop of his own at the Corner of Victoria St. & Barton St. in Hamilton ON and also called it Down The Lane/Louis and Son to carry on the tradition. Denis "Antique" Howarth also had various well known locations around Downtown Hamilton during the 90's as well.

Today, Pete Howarth "Grandson of Louis Howarth, and Son of Denis" has continued the tradition since 2001. We sell Antiques, Collectibles, Used Furniture, Art, Prints, Pictures, Records, Lamps, Vintage/Retro Items, Advertising, Old Toys and lots of other Treasures!!

In 2002 Pete Howarth opened up Down the Lane Moving & Delivery. Whether you're moving, need a Delivery, recycling, removing items or just looking to rent a trailer to move items yourself, we got you covered for all your needs.
