Little People's Workshop

General information

Little People's Workshop early childhood program was founded in 1985 in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. The program philosophy and curriculum have been an evolving framework for the teaching of young children based on current research on how children develop and learn. Since 1985, the program's goal has been consistent in providing quality programming for young children age 2-5. In recent years, the practice has expanded to include infants, as well as school age children.

Little People's Workshop programs address the 'whole child' - a holistic approach creating curricula to meet children's emotional, social, cognitive and physical needs. Competent Early Learning and Care Professionals individualize the programs and adapt to meet the needs, functions and interest of children in their respective groups.

The Little People's Workshop philosophy recognizes that children are active decision makers and we empower the children to make constructive choices about how and what they learn. Teachers provide a wide range of activities and materials, children engage in concrete experiences with real materials. The activities in which they participate are relevant and meaningful to them. Play is a valuable vehicle for learning.

Little People's Workshop programs use an integrated curriculum - science, math, and early literacy are combined in the context of the child's daily activities.

Our staff recognize that the young child's first and most valuable teachers are their family. Parent participation is encouraged and welcome.
