The technology consists of a passive infrared sensor and an energy management unit interfaced to a rooms thermostat. Through the detection of human thermal body signatures, the system identifies when a room becomes unoccupied, and adjusts the HVAC and lighting settings to reduce energy consumption. Once occupancy has returned to the room, the initial settings are quickly restored.
