Who is Kim McKay Fitness?
I am a personal training specialist based in Montreal, Quebec with a focus on fitness, health, and overall wellness. I have over 16 years’ experience training people individually and in groups. My passion and motivation is helping people happily achieve their health and fitness goals. Whether it’s gaining strength and flexibility, overcoming injuries, running a marathon, or fitting into those jeans, I will help them get there! It really fires me up to make someone smile....to know I’ve reached someone's tender spot and see their happiness light up because of my personalized program approach.

Years ago I figured out that trying to be “perfect” was self-defeating. What works is doing my best and doing my best is great! I use the 80/20 rule. My goal for myself and my clients is to be self-aware, happy and healthy.

I truly enjoy meeting people. Everyone has their own unique story to tell and our communication and understanding of each other is an important part to a successful plan of action. I'm very good at meeting people where they are and working with them to get to where they want to be.

My life philosophy is about having positive balance: be the best you can be; live and let live; look for the bright side; do your best; work hard; and have fun.
I incorporate this outlook into my work and use my diverse experience in transforming the lives of people who are ultimately seeking one thing: happiness.

What can I bring to the table?
I have always had an overall interest in wellness and I am fortunate that I can draw on my own personal experience with weight loss challenges and increasing personal fitness in order to help others. My approach with all of my programs, from group classes, to one-on-one training, to The Happiness Approach to Weight Loss is attitude – a realistic yet positive attitude in overcoming challenges and achieving a successful goal.

Why is my weight loss approach different?
The Happiness Approach helps people understand and utilize the mind-body connection – how we think, feel and act around eating, food and exercising and the impact it has on one’s health, fitness and weight loss goals. My knowledge and experience helping people reach their health and fitness goals is a key factor in using a positive approach for a positive outcome. This includes personalized strategies to overcome any setbacks that might be encountered.

What makes me unique?
When someone decides to start a class for the first time or to start training it can be very intimidating. It’s important that people feel comfortable and safe when they decide to start their fitness journey with me. My goal is to help lift people up. I want them to know that I understand what they’re going through and have lived all of the same emotions they're dealing with. And I want them to know their strength – that they can achieve what they aim for.

Sustainability:
In order for us to be successful with our health and wellness goals, not only do we have to incorporate healthy lifestyle changes, we also have to pay attention to the stories we tell ourselves about ourselves, and also the things that elicit poor choices. It’s really about being mindful of where we are at any given moment as a daily practice so it becomes second nature to us.

Custom Planning:
The initial consultation (in person, phone or skype) is about discovery. Each person has their own desires unique to them. This is an opportunity to discover what someone really wants: achieving a weight loss goal, overcoming an injury, or making better health choices. Step two (2) is a fitness assessment: I look at posture, perform movement analysis observation, as well as flexibility testing. The final step is taking all of the important information we have gathered and designing a personalized program specifically for the individual.

Qualifications:
I attended John Abbott College and studied Social Sciences which truly helped me form the foundation of what I do: learning and understanding individual and group needs, while at the same time enhancing my interpersonal skills. I completed my personal trainer specialist certification with Canadian Fitness Professionals, as well as the YMCA Individual Conditioning certification.

Results:
Over the past 16 years I've worked with hundreds of people who have collectively lost hundreds of pounds. Achieving their goals is important to them and me; whether losing weight, toning and strengthening, and/or overcoming injury. My clients tell me that they feel better and more confident and comfortable with who they are.

I am eager to introduce others to my life-changing programs!
